Traditional leather hand tools

I hand stitch all my own leather work and use leather from a long-established company that has over a hundred years’ experience supplying the trade in London. I specifically select the hides, mostly 3mm thick, in natural colour, for their lack of blemishes and their quality to enable dying and polishing. There are options for alternative leathers like Ostrich, Lizard and Shagreen.

The Design and planning for a sheath covers the sheath’s function and appearance – not everyone wants a knife that hangs from a belt, they prefer to keep in a backpack where it is available but out of sight.

The sheath is half-formed and then wet-fitted to the knife ensuring a firm and secure fit; it is then hand stitched and finally dyed, polished and treated to preserve it.
